How to do the perfect repetition

A rep is comprised of 3 phases: Concentric: positive part (i.e. the pushing up with bench press) Static (i.e. top of lift) Eccentric: returning the weight (i.e. lowering or returning the weight). The perfect rep requires: Contracting your muscle during the concentric phase. Squeezing the muscle during the static/pause moment. Maintain tension during the eccentric phase (i.e. return slowly). In other words, you don't mindlessly lift. Instead, focus your attention to each phase of the rep.
